Its Beginning to Look nothing Like Christmas

Christmas to me now, is nothing like the Christmas that I used to know.
What happened to the good old days?
What happened to watching Christmas specials with hot chocolate?
Where are the smiling faces filled with holiday cheer?
Where are the tiny tots with there eyes all aglow?
When did we change to this stone cold electronic society?
When did we just let the magic go?
Why are we such a materialistic society?
Why do we obsess over the lowest prices on the hottest gifts?
Christmas? What has the world done to you?
 

Life is like a box of chocolates because you never know what your going to get.
But what about a delicate flower?
The present becomes the past and slowly withers away making way for new moments. 
So life is like a flower because every new petal becomes a memory.

This is my baby sister Alissa. 

She is living proof of several things.

10 Years ago today
We had witnessed the worst attack on American soil in U.S. history, and we were preparing for the aftermath. 
The country was trying to make things go back to the way things were before that September morning.
But there was no going back. We as a country had changed forever that morning when nearly 3,000 died.
 Remember Sept. 11, 2001 

Friendship

I took this photo and at the time, I didn't realize what this picture means to me. For me, it symbolizes how I feel. 

Like the thoughts on my mind the flames are all over the place. Thinking of different dilemmas, issues, and topics in my life.

Like my want of an adventure the flames burn bright. Wanting to breakout. To see and be seen.

Like my reaching for something more, the flames stretch high. As if the are attempting to grasp something that is so close and yet so far away. I feel as though I am the person who has everything and yet nothing.

And like the inevitable in my life, the flames will eventually go out. Left as ashes and still burning embers, the legacy that I have left behind over a lifetime.  

I took this photo in Reno in the winter. When I look at this photo I think about the holidays with family. Sitting next to a crackling fire on Christmas eve with a cup of hot chocolate with a peppermint candy cane in it. Or a cup of warm apple cider with a stick of cinnamon, what ever your preference is. Many seem to believe that some of their most peaceful moments were moments of them relaxing alone with a good book, movie, or their favorite show. I however think that is crazy talk. Some of the best moments in life are those which you spend with the ones you love.

Many people never realize what they have until it has slipped from their fingers. Cherish those moments no matter how significant or how small, love every minute of the life that you have been blessed with.

Be Involved

How often do you do a good deed? Here's a better question. A person walks by you on a crowed sidewalk and they drop something on their person, but they don't notice. Are you the person who picks up the item and politely gives it back, or do you figure that someone else saw too and will pick it up? If you answered "someone else picked it up", I've got news for you. What you picked is the result of what is called the bystander effect. There are many recorded instances of the bystander effect. But it it wasn't just someone dropping something on the sidewalk. They were murders, rapes, kidnappings, or robberies. People rarely get involved in anything. If you think that someone is in danger or are a danger, get involved! If it will save a life, why would you not get involved? Now obviously seeing something like a robbery, kidnapping, etc. is very very rare. But, when you have the chance to make a difference... DO IT!
